12/16/04: AskJeeves launches beta Desktop Search. Allows Windows users to search Office documents, Outlook email messages, web pages, and the names, if not the content, of image and music files. Includes image preview.

12/15/04: Yahoo allows a peek at its new Video Search, which appears to be based on a similar service AltaVista had before Overture (now YahoOverture) swallowed them up.

12/13/04: Microsoft unrolls beta MSN Toolbar Suite, including a Desktop Search Tool, which, predictably, makes MSN Search your default search engine and home page (though this can be changed). Other than that, it seems superior to Google's Desktop Search.
