June, 2005 6/28/05: Yahoo updates My Web Personal Search, released in April 2005, after its original introduction, in beta, in October 2004. This release introduces features attractive to user groups, allowing them to categorize and name their favorite sites, and tell their peers about them. 6/28/05: Google graduates Personalized Search and Google Earth (formerly known as Google Maps) from beta. Local searches now include satellite imagery, a head start on the 3D images to come. 6/27/05: In April 2005, Google began soliciting user videos for inclusion in Google Video Search. These are now available for viewing. 6/22/05: Google announces intention to release an electronic payment system similar, but not identical to PayPal. Unclear whether it is to be used only on their site, or, like PayPal, for general purposes. 6/21/05: MSN releases new Local Search, similar to that already employed by Google and Yahoo. 6/16/05: Google launches Mobile Search, allowing cell phone users to search sites designed for mobile users as well as regular sites. 6/16/05: Yahoo announces beta release of Subscriptions search, which allows subscribers of partner sites (such as Consumer Reports, Wall Street Journal, etc.) to search those sites through Yahoo. 6/7/05: Fathom Online releases May Keyword Price Index showing cost of paid search dropping to an average of $1.66/click, down 15% from April. 6/2/05: Google unrolls Google Sitemaps, a new form of web page submission that allows webmasters to inform Google of new or updated content.
