12/17/05: Google buys 5% stake in AOL for $1 billion, ensuring that it, not MSN, will continue to supply search engine results to AOL. Google will also promote AOL's network of web sites for free, though this is not supposed to affect organic search results.

12/15/05: Yahoo announces intention to reduce display of pay-per-click ad descriptions from 190 characters to 70 by mid-January, matching the approach used by Google Adwords.

12/9/05: Yahoo acquires Del.icio.us, a website that allows users to more easily share information about their favorite websites. Some of that information could end up helping to determine relevancy in Yahoo. If so, the partnership could end up muddying the waters at Del.icio.us, as spammers rush to manipulate their ranking at Yahoo by tagging their site in Del.icio.us.

12/8/05: As of this date, you may ask (or answer) a question on Yahoo Answers, a new service that matches the curious with as many self-appointed experts as care to answer - sort of an interactive Wikipedia.
