Search Engine Reports
January 2008
Google Webmaster Central introduces a new feature called Content Analysis. Webmasters can use it to detect obstacles Google encountered while trying to index their sites. Google launches Google Knol, intended to unseat Wikipedia. This doesn't seem likely, given the major difference between the two - Wikipedia allows any user to write an article, and any user to edit it, and Knol does not. Wikipedia's open-source attitude has led to accuracy that some say rivals traditional encyclopedias. Knol's articles are written by named individuals, and are locked for editing by other authors. Also, Google is allowing advertising on Knol articles. Google Adwords improves advertisers' ability to target customers geographically - down to the country, state, city, or town. AdSense publishers can now block unwanted ads from publication on their sites. Microsoft adCenter announces January 8th release of a new add-in for Excel. With it, webmasters can extract keywords from a site and then view the popularity, click-through rate, cost per click, and demographics of each key phrase.
