Search Engine Reports
October, 2008 Now, when you enter a search query on your cell phone, Google's Maps for Mobile can triangulate your location from nearby cell phone towers. Since Google's new operating system for mobile phones will almost certainly come with Maps for Mobile pre-installed, you can expect it to be widely used. If your business relies on foot traffic, claiming a listing in Google Maps has become even more important. Supposedly, the user's location will never be associated with personal information (though that seems impossible if users are logged in to a Google account). Google Maps cracks down on businesses that have managed to get multiple listings based on multiple keyworded business "names" or multiple locations. Microsoft continues adding features to Live Search Local. Google Adwords is expected to go through with its deal to provide ads to Yahoo, despite a potential antitrust lawsuit. Probably only long-tail queries will be displayed. At Adwords: Now, advertisers' Quality Scores are re-calculated with each new query. Low Quality Score or low bids will not disable keywords. Also, it is now possible to track keyword performance by geography.
