If you are logged into your Google account you can now customize search results by moving listings to the top or the bottom of the page, or hiding them. You can also enter whatever URL you think should appear on the first page of results. An input field makes it possible to make a public comment about any listing on the search results page. These comments can be given the "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" by other readers. Clearly, this data could be later factored into Google's algorithm or used to identify spammers.

Google introduces YouTube Sponsored Videos. Any Youtube member can upload a video, specify keywords for which they'd like it to appear, as well as a daily budget and maximum cost-per-click.

Google Adwords continues to improve its Quality Score algorithm.

Google continues the attempt to get its new browser, Chrome, bundled with new PCs.

Yahoo continues the downward spiral as its CEO steps down and Google backs out of a long-tail advertising relationship to avoid a prospective anti-trust lawsuit.

To speculation that they intend to re-brand their search engine, currently known as Live.com, Microsoft buys the domain name Kumo.com, which means "spider" and "cloud" in Japanese. This will be their third attempt to successfully brand the engine.
