Search Engine Reports
January, 2009 Yahoo announces intention to retain user data just 90 days - much more attractive to privacy proponents than Google's nine months. 14 new members joined Google's Open Handset Alliance group, bringing the total to more than 50. Many will introduce phones powered by Android, Google's open-source mobile operating system. Google's dominance in this arena suggests that Adwords advertisers should take advantage of a new targeting feature which allows advertisers to target users of Smartphones - that is, iPhones and the Android-powered G1 by T-Mobile. Also, it may no longer be necessary to design landing pages specifically for mobile devices, since the Android and iPhone operating system both display web pages much the same as desktops do. Google takes its new browser, Chrome, out of beta. Yahoo lays off 1500 employees. As if to acknowledge the state of the economy, Google Adwords now permits ads for hard liquor. Well, not exactly. One cannot advertise the sale of liquor, but branding and recipes are allowed.
